Poppy Pt 2

Since returning from my honeymoon, I haven’t picked up my camera or felt the urge to take photos. This is mainly because of my grandfather’s unexpected passing

In the week, going through the years of photographs I took of him has been comforting. It’s been relief to look back at all the candid moments I captured and remember the time we had together.

The day before we returned home, I learned that my grandfather had fallen in his room at my parents’ house. After a trip to the hospital, he seemed okay and was sent home. The next day, the day we were flying home, My mom went downstairs to get him for dinner and he wasn’t himself and then fell over on his bed, the paramedics where called and could not wake him. He was taken back to the hospital by ambulance, never regained consciousness, and later passed away. The doctors think that he had developed an infection that spread to his heart, where he’d had surgery the previous year.

I had been home less than 24 hours and he was gone. My wife and I made it to the hospital before he passed and was able to say goodbye.

Before I left on my trip, I went to my parents’ house to grab my suitcase. My mom asked if I wanted to eat dinner with them. I almost decided not to because I needed to go home to pack. I’m glad I stayed.

Love you, Poppy.
