An Attempt at Attempting
I’ve been photographing my world for 18 years. I’ve always added a tagline or a short sentence to go with my photos, but I’ve never really written deeply or expressively about my life or my photography.
Recently, I picked up a new lens, and it breathed new life into both me and my passion for the work. It reminded me why I started in the first place. I’ve been doing this for a long time, and now I feel ready to slow down and talk about the why behind it all.
A community would be beautiful. Photography can feel like a lonely endeavour at times, and I think a lot of photographers end up going it alone because they’re introverts. Not everyone, of course otherwise we wouldn’t have photojournalists, wedding photographers, and others who thrive around people. For me, I can photograph alone, but I’m more confident when others are around. Sharing a hobby or a passion with someone makes a world of difference. It turns something solitary into something shared.
This space will be loose and honest. No strict schedule. No deadlines. Posts will come when they come when something feels worth saying, or when I can push past the resistance that tells me not to bother.
Writing has never really been my thing. I can come up with a quick line for Instagram or the Foto app, but I’ve never taken the time to go deeper to really talk about a photograph or what it means to me.
So this is my attempt.
